Launching Walking Communities
On May 7, DGI Sydvest invited walking hosts to the season launch of walking communities, where they could try out David Garcia’s specially designed walking staff. The staff records the rhythm of the tidal landscape and transmits sounds from the tidal flats, the shoreline, the marshes, and the plantations while walking
Program
15:00. Walking hosts are welcomed with coffee and cake by DGI Sydvest.
15:30. Introduction to Walking with the Waves by David Garcia
15:45. The performance Walking with the Waves by David Garcia (2 groups of approx. 25 participants)
17:30. Evaluation of the walk and conversation, followed by sign‑up for upcoming silent walks
We Collect Sounds
Varde Municipality is collecting recordings from David Garcia and from all walkers who wish to contribute to a sound mapping of the tidal area. Everyone is encouraged to contribute recordings made using the staff. Participation is anonymous.
Please send your recording, including the date, time, and location, to project manager Anna Ankerstjerne at aann@varde.dk.
The recordings will be made available so that visitors can listen to the collected sound material throughout the exhibition. In addition, the recordings will form part of a sound work by Frederikke Hooge, a student of electronic music and sound art at the Danish National Academy of Music (SDMK).
