About Wadden Tide

– a recurring art exhibition in the northern Wadden Sea
Wadden Tide is a recurring outdoor art exhibition featuring innovative works that address some of the most pressing questions of our time. This is the second time that Varde Municipality hosts Wadden Tide, which is now being held for the fifth time. Varde Municipality first hosted the exhibition in 2023.

Bringing In The Tide, Wadden Tide 2026 builds on First There Is A Mountain, Wadden Tide 2023, which explored sand as a formative force in the shaping of Blåvandshuk through nine site‑specific artworks. In 2023, the exhibition welcomed 200,000 visitors, before a storm surge ultimately carried it back into the depths of the sea.

In 2026, the exhibition takes place across multiple locations for the first time, addressing the entire tidal system of Varde Municipality—from Blåvandshuk and Skallingen to Ho and the Varde River. Bringing In The Tide presents twelve site‑specific performances, installations, and sculptures within the tidal landscape, offering audiences artistic experiences in this unique ecosystem.

Both exhibitions are curated by the curatorial duo Empathic Environments, consisting of Stenka Hellfach and Tyra Dokkedahl.
